I have been hearing the pipeline argument for the last 40 years and TBH it’s absurd how slowly the percentage of female faculty members has trailed the grad student demographics. My PhD cohort was appx 25% female in 1990. Most R1 institutions in my field are not even at 25% female faculty in 2026.

Same in medicine. Student numbers have been equal or female majority for a long time. But it's easier to blame women for a lack of "drive" than change the structure.
